Madison Astronomical Society

Youth Telescope Scholarship
Awarded Annually

Every spring, the Madison Astronomical Society awards loaner telescopes to two or three area high school students. The telecopes are:

1. A 4.5 inch equatorially mounted reflector (newtonian).

2. An 8 inch reflector on a dobsonian mount.

3. An 8 inch Schmidt Cassegrain (SCT) on a fork mount.

The first two telescopes are well suited to beginner observers up to those with intermediate experience. The third is intended for experienced observers, as well as for returning applicants who have spent a year with one of the other two scopes.

The selected students keep the telescope for one year. Additionally, we provide star charts, reference books, and a few eyepieces and other accessories.

If you are interested in this opportunity yourself, or know a student who might be a good candidate, read on and download the application.
